Monochromatic: Purple Top Finished

This was the hardest quilt I have made so far. I kept running into trouble. First, I ran out of white and had to use two different whites in the quilt. Then the black ran short and I had to makeshift some borders. Overall, it is also one of my favorites.

Saturday Nights Sure Have Changed!

I remember talking with a friend recently about what we did on Friday and Saturday nights. We talked about how tired we are now after a long work week and that by Friday night, we can't move out of the house. And in our previous lives, we would go out around 10pm on Friday's and Saturday's. Boy, has life changed.

This past Saturday, I went out to dinner with a friend at 5:30pm and went to our local Walmart for coffee and a doughnut at Dunkin' Donuts (it's housed in Walmart). As we were sitting there, we talked about the People of Walmart website and we challenged each other to find something to go on that website (we didn't). My how things in my life have changed!

So I finished my coffee and went to buy storage containers for my sewing room. I am doing two Quilt challenges from The Patchwork Times and I wanted to be organized to see what fabrics I have available. I am also on a mission to reduce my stash as much as possible. So I am quilting away!

Here are a few pictures of what my sewing room looked like and how it is all sorted in clear containers that I bought at Walmart.

Nice and neat and ready for the next Monochromatic Challenge!

This is what I am thinking for the backing. What do you think?

Breakfast with the Biddies/Brunch with the Babes

This morning as I was getting ready to have Brunch with the BABES, I realized that I have Breakfast with the Biddies every Friday morning and Brunch with the BABES every once in a while. It is hard to get all the BABES together at one time. I live 1 to 1 1/2 away now from the BABES and we all have things going on in our lives.

Five years ago, I moved away from Charlotte to take this job. I decided then that I would give "it" five years and if I didnt like living here I would go job hunting once more. Well in that five years I have made new friends (and kept the old), tutor at a local church, joined the Quilt Guild, take Quilt classes, take College classes (for a license renewal), have Breakfast with the Biddies, have a friend at RoseGlen (our local retirement village), am on the Board of Head Start, hopefully will be on the Board of the Montessori school, am a member at the Y, have pool friends, quilt friends, old friends, new friends....wait for it! wait for it!!! Make new friends but keep the old, some are silver and some are gold!!!

Here are pictures of our today Brunch!!! Also, today was full of handmade gifts to ME!!!! Thanks BABES, I love them!

This is a quilt Jane made for her Toddler Montessori class's Gala which is a fund raiser for the school.
It's beautiful, Jane!

This is the hat that Suzanne made me. I let Debbie try it on..lol

And a few beautiful, gorgeous baby sweaters that Suzanne made. She is an incredible knitter!

And fingerless mittens made by Suzanne.

And this picture is for Susan (even though it's of Jane's house)

And Debby's hat:

I love you guys!

In the works: Vegetable Soup

So all my peeps know I love the fruit and vegetable fabric. Now, I get to use it all in one quilt.

Yarn Nerd

I had a new client this morning at work- somehow we got talking about crafting and yarn... I really enjoyed talking with this lady- we talked about the yarn shop on East Blvd. About just liking to go in there and look at all the colors, feel the different textures... I said I am part of a group of women who are yarn and fabric nerds- and we are proud of it! Gotta love my job when I get to do this.

5K tomorrow- Cupid's Cup in Charlotte- my first of my turning 50 TEN 5K's!!! Pictures will be posted if I survive.

HS State Championships

We returned from Cary around 11:30 last night- it was a very long, but fun day. The Pine Lake girls did great! It was bittersweet for Morgan since it was her last HS meet. Out of 71 teams, Pine Lake girls came in 15! Morgan came in 5th in the 500 free, 10th overall in the 200 free and the 200 free relay came in 7th, 400 free relay came in 10th. Here are some pics from the 200 free finals heat- she finished 2nd in her heat, but took time off from the morning- her time is 4 seconds faster than this meet last year!

Challenges/Decisions

I am doing two challenges by Judy at Patchwork Times: one is the UFO challenge to finish my unfinished projects and the other is the Monochromatic challenge. I also work full time and February is a short month. I say this because I am going to have to choose to NOT do one of the challenges in February. My goal is to use up as much of my stash before May when Eric and Monica come back from Japan for a visit.

Here is my UFO: It's a reversible quilt

And here is my Monochromatic (purple) of the month.

The Lemon Quilt

Monica and Eric said that when they have a baby, they will call her Lemon. I don't know if they really will or not but I will always think of her as Lemon. I had this Lemon fabric in my stash, so I did this!

I am trying to use up fabric that I have in the house. One of my main reasons, is when Eric and Monica come in from Japan, Melanie came up with the idea of dropping Eric off in Charlotte for a few days while she, Monica and myself go to MaryJo's Fabric Store. I have put away a lot of money for this trip but I need to use the fabric up that's already in my sewing room. I used some leftovers for the back. I have always liked other people's quilt backs when they used many fabrics for the backing. So here's mine.....

Here is the Lemon Quilt.
